History
Artistic Director, Jodi Porter began her work as an international figure skating professional. Ms. Porter further developed her skills as a dancer and obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Modern Dance from the University of Utah. Since then, her vision has been to help change the world of figure skating by furthering the development of a new art form, which melds the technical and compositional elements of dance on ice. She has worked as a choreographer to develop this idea since 1997. Moving to the Bay Area in 2002, Ms. Porter continued her vision here in San Jose by developing the first Ice Ballet Company. Modeled after a professional dance company, American Ice Theatre will create a home season with Fall and Spring performances. The Spring performance for 2004 culminates with the South Bay National Dance Week Closing Event, which AIT is producing. AIT strives to provide on-going training for it's performing artists both in the studio and on the ice. It is the first company of its kind in the nation to provide such training for professional ice/dance artists.
